A little over two years ago I walked down the aisle of the House of Representatives to cast a vote on the most historic legislation undertaken by Congress in almost half a century, and the stakes couldn't have been any higher.

Senate Democratic Leader Gretchen Whitmer (D-East Lansing) announced today that the legislation to enact the Michigan 2020 Plan was introduced in the Michigan Senate this morning. The plan, which would cover the cost of college tuition for all Michigan high school graduates, has been touted by education officials, business leaders and economists as the best investment Michigan can make to rebuild our economy and bring job providers to our state.

A friend of mine has a 23 year old daughter. She was living on her own and had a job but it didn’t pay benefits. She was in desperate need of dental surgery but was unable to pay for it. Because she was too old to be on her mother’s health care plan and her employer didn’t offer health care coverage for her, she went without much needed dental care.

$10,000 Scholarship Competition to Highlight the Michigan 2020 Plan

Senator Vincent Gregory (D-Southfield) announced the #mi2020 Scholarship Competition today that will provide the winner with a year’s worth of tuition, up to $10,000, at any of Michigan’s community colleges or public universities. To enter, students are asked to submit a short web video at www.mi2020video.com that explains the importance of investing in higher education and how the Michigan 2020 Plan to offer free college tuition to all students is the right investment to make.

LANSING, MI –Judge William Collette, from the Ingham County Circuit Court, issued a ruling today, overturning the controversial Republican powergrab legislation (Public Act 280 of 2011) that was to allow Republicans in Oakland County to redo redistricting to their advantage prior to the 2012 election.
