Whitmer Champions January Job Growth, President Obama’s Economic Efforts

LANSING – Following the release of the national January jobs numbers today, Senate Democratic Leader Gretchen Whitmer noted that Michigan and the nation continue to benefit from President Barack Obama’s economic policies.

The report showed that the national economy added 257,000 private sector jobs last month, making January the 23rd straight month of private sector job growth under President Obama’s leadership.

Common Cause Michigan Launches Effort to Track and Organize for True Government Reform in Michigan

Today Common Cause Michigan launched RightToKnowMichigan.Org, a website that will track the progress of true ethics reform in our state.

“We are asking all Michigan citizens who care about protecting their right to know when corporations spend money to influence elections or government officials to visit RightToKnowMichigan.Org, where they can sign on to our petition calling for real reforms in Lansing,” announced Melanie McElroy, executive director of Common Cause Michigan.

Senate Democratic Leader Gretchen Whitmer said today that Michigan can be a national trailblazer in increasing access to college following President Obama’s emphasis on higher education in his State of the Union address last night. The Michigan Senate Democrats recently announced their Michigan 2020 Plan to offer free college tuition to all Michigan high school graduates at no additional cost to taxpayers, which would be the first program of its kind in the country.
