No Reason Absentee Voting Deserves Quick Action from the Michigan Senate

By State Senator Gilda Z. Jacobs
May 7, 2009

Recently, the Michigan House of Representatives passed their No Reason Absentee Voting bill and sent it to the Michigan Senate. This bill will now join voting reform bills that my colleagues and I have introduced in the Senate Committee on Campaign and Election Oversight. We know what needs to be done to make voting simple and easy for the people of Michigan. We need to move quickly on the House and Senate bills so that we can bring more eligible voters to the polls at the next election.

Sen. Specter Returns to the Democratic Party

By Dr. Phil O'Dwyer, Chair
April 30, 2009

The Republican Party has become increasingly inhospitable to moderate Republicans. Extreme ideologues are currently engaged in "purifying the party" by forcing out those considered "unmanageable." This program is called RINO (Republican In Name Only) and its intent is to phase them out at election time. This is not the party of the past but a diminishing cadre of bitter right-wing extremists obsessed with a few moral issues. They have become more of a fanatical religion than a political party dedicated to public service.

Patterson Wrong to Contemplate Gov. Bid

By Mike McGuinness, Chair, Oakland County Democratic Party
April 9, 2009

It’s now clear Oakland County Executive L. Brooks Patterson won’t be running for Governor of Michigan. Yet, he is popping his own political trial balloon that he himself raised in the first month of his 48 month-long term -- in classy form, releasing a statement from Florida while on vacation. Patterson is having a difficult time justifying to the people of Oakland County that he should remain County Executive, let alone spend the next two years running for Governor.
