Economists say decline in unemployment due mostly to people giving up

LANSING- Senate Democratic Leader Gretchen Whitmer (D-East Lansing) pointed to testimony given at the state’s Consensus Revenue Estimating Conference today as further evidence that Governor Snyder’s policies are failing to turn Michigan’s economy around. University of Michigan economist George Fulton told the conference that Michigan’s decreasing unemployment numbers were mostly due to people giving up on looking for work. The testimony directly conflicts with the Governor’s rhetoric that his corporate tax cuts are creating jobs.

It's Just Not Right!

By: Senator Carl Levin
May 9, 2012

Senate Republicans are preventing the Senate from even debating legislation to fix the looming increase in student loan interest rates. It's just not right.

On July 1, the interest rate on student loans is going to increase from 3.4 percent to 6.8 percent. It's going to double unless we act. That will cost 7.4 million college students and their families money that many families do not have to spare. So the need to act is urgent.

Equal pay for equal work – pretty straight forward.

You put in a good day of work and you should earn the same amount as anyone else - no matter your sex.

Unfortunately this is not the case!
