In the last 12 hours alone, more than 1100 people have signed up online to say to GM: Make it in Michigan!

As I'm sure you know far too well, the last several months have been extremely rough on the domestic auto industry. As a part of its restructuring, GM is going to be permanently closing several plants in Michigan, and indefinitely idling many more.

Recently, the Michigan House of Representatives passed their No Reason Absentee Voting bill and sent it to the Michigan Senate. This bill will now join voting reform bills that my colleagues and I have introduced in the Senate Committee on Campaign and Election Oversight. We know what needs to be done to make voting simple and easy for the people of Michigan. We need to move quickly on the House and Senate bills so that we can bring more eligible voters to the polls at the next election.

The Republican Party has become increasingly inhospitable to moderate Republicans. Extreme ideologues are currently engaged in "purifying the party" by forcing out those considered "unmanageable." This program is called RINO (Republican In Name Only) and its intent is to phase them out at election time. This is not the party of the past but a diminishing cadre of bitter right-wing extremists obsessed with a few moral issues. They have become more of a fanatical religion than a political party dedicated to public service.
