Senate Republicans Vote Unanimously to Protect Michigan Business Tax

Despite spending the summer telling Michigan voters that they had eliminated the “job killing” Michigan Business Tax, Michigan Senate Republicans voted unanimously today to specifically allow the MBT to continue to exist for decades to come.

Last night something happened in Congress that Speaker Boehner never saw coming.

You see, House Republicans wanted to fund emergency disaster relief by defunding a program that helped create over 41,000 auto manufacturing jobs - in fact, experts directly credited this program for bringing the manufacturing of the Ford Focus from Mexico to Detroit.

Last fall, when Rick Snyder and the Republicans swept into complete control of the government in Michigan, we knew things could get ugly. But "ugly" is a polite word for what we've seen.

Michigan Republicans have gone on a right-wing binge, giving out new corporate tax breaks while also passing deep budget cuts that are pushing us toward a double-dip recession. And Republicans are pushing the same far-right agenda in state capitols across the country.
