Forty-six years ago today, President Johnson signed Medicare into law. In the early 1960’s, there was a debate over how the country should address the costs of health care. Not unlike today, there were conservative opponents claiming every step along the way that the government should not play a role in ensuring senior citizens have access to quality medical care.
